What we're Substacking (June 2026)
Who and what we're reading lately on Substack for social impact, philanthropy, civil society, nonprofits/NGOs, social change (and what not)
🕯 Substack is an incredible creative space and meeting point for writers from around the world. It’s also a vibrant, diverse, and growing community filled with passionate voices worth exploring.
🕷️ At any given moment on any given day, you’ll find yourself following threads and strands from familiar starting points to unexpected places.
🧵 We’re sharing another edition of who (and what) we are (and have been) reading or following on Substack this month. The list is arranged (quasi)alphabetically by writer first name (where applicable). No rankings, just thankings.
📜 List starts after the photo break. Scroll to the bottom for our previous lists [August 2025 - May 2026]
🌱 Please remember five simple things to help your favorite Substacks grow their audiences:
A) Subscribe to Substacks online and/or through the Substack app.
B) Follow the writers, authors, journalists, and creators themselves via their Substack Profiles and their social media links. Cross-channel shout-outs are also quite cool things to do.
C) Promote others through Substack Notes. When you have time also like, restack, and comment on posts and notes that catch your attention. [Get started with Notes here.]
D) Recommend other Substacks on your Substack: Go to your Dashboard > Recommendations > Outgoing Recommendations > Add Recommendation and then enter the Substack Name with a short blurb. At the bottom of your Recommendations settings, make sure “Include in recommendation digests” and “Show recommendations on homepage” are both switched to “On” [Learn more about this powerful boost here.]
E) Upgrade, “tip”, or buy from Substackers you enjoy— but only if your budget allows. Many Substacks offer incentives and discounts for their paid tiers. Others have online “tip jars” (e.g. Ko-fi, BuyMeACoffee, etc). And there’s a good number of authors/writers/creators who make their work available on their external storefronts. Supporting the Substacker economy is a good thing. Make sure you’re also promoting your own support channels too.
Thanks to everyone for sharing your voices and views through Substack, and helping others to make good content reach more good people locally and globally. Every form of support counts. Good wishes and happy reading. 📖
On BE4SI, we’re talking nonprofits/NGOs, social enterprise, philanthropy, civil society, and social impact— filtered through U.S. and Central/Eastern European lenses. As a reader-supported publication, we’d be honored to have you as a subscriber.
If you appreciate the social impact news and notes we bring you, send some caffeinated love our way. Your tips, gifts, and donations give us the added boost to keep things flowing. 🍵 🍃☕ 🍂
Word of mouth is essential to our growth. Please share our Substack with others. Many thanks!⚡🫶🏾 💫
Thank You!

What we're Substacking (October 2025)
🍂 Over the summer, we shared two “starter lists” of social impact Substacks worth reading. Even now, in autumn, responses and suggestions are still flowing in. So, we’re going to share a third listing of more choice writers and publications we’re checking out.
What we're Substacking (September 2025)
🍃 About a month ago, I shared a starter list of Substacks focused on social impact, philanthropy, civil society, and social change—and the response was amazing. Seeing so many thoughtful, committed writers sharing their perspectives reaffirms the value of the platform. And it validates the importance of themes I care about and write about myself.
